Why the centrifuge step decides the diagnosis
A standard semen analysis examines a drop of untreated sample under the microscope. When nothing is seen, the lab should spin the sample down and re-examine the pellet. If sperm appear there, the diagnosis is cryptozoospermia, not azoospermia.
This is not a technicality. It tells you the testicles are producing sperm — just very few — which changes the diagnostic path and usually improves the outlook. A lab that reports "azoospermia" without documenting a centrifuged examination has not actually ruled cryptozoospermia out, and it is reasonable to ask.
What it means for having children
